Thank you!

A short post to say thank you, for all of your donations so far....nearly reached £1000! Corporate sponsorship is yet to come, so this is a fantastic figure but more money is needed, so spread the word!

Thank you to Medway Messenger for producing an article....it felt a bit strange reading about myself!

My training is continuing on....'I'm still pounding the countryside'......;)

Team member Beverley involved in a collision

Unfortunately, on Tuesday, Beverley was involved in a collision on the A267 near Five Ashes, East Sussex.

A 4x4 pulled straight out in front of her from a side turning. Beverley didn't stand a chance and 't-boned' the vehicle. Beverley had to be cut out by the fire brigade, with possible back, neck, leg, arm and head injuries. Airbags were deployed in her car, which probably saved her life. Police on scene stated that the other driver had admitted full liability and three witnesses had come forward.

She was taken to hospital, where the trauma team were waiting for her. There was concern about the extent of the injuries and her heart rate was considered too high. Once stabilised and x-rays complete, they found that she had a broken arm, wrist and was bruised from head to toe.

I went to visit her shortly after. The bed area was not a pretty sight - blood on the floor, all of her clothes cut off and scattered around by the trauma team, wires everywhere, heart rate through the roof - but she still looked fantastic, despite what she had been through!  Such a brave girl! I quote what she said to me "That was my favourite dress they cut up and that bra cost me £70". It was then that I knew she was ok.

I won't dwell on this for too long as it won't stop Beverley from climbing Mount Elgon for charity, will it BEV?!!  Although at the moment, she is very sore, bruised and in pain - she will make a full recovery.....no excuse to get out of training! ;) ;)

Here's a couple of pics....

Update...

On Saturday 16th March, we attended the Pride In Medway Awards (I was lucky enough to be invited).

I met with some fantastic people. It was an emotional evening. Those who won awards should be proud of themselves as they have done some amazing things for charity and for others in need.

I was lucky to meet Sangeeta Bhabra (Presenter on ITV News - Meridian) and Sascha Kindred OBE,  a British swimmer who has competed in five Summer Paralympic Games, winning twelve medals.

I had my two seconds of fame on the news, which of course, I recorded! My kids loved seeing me on the telly!

Lastly I would like to pass on my personal thanks to 'Village Voices' & Medway Messenger for agreeing to publish an article about our fundraising trip. Also Beverley Thompson, my team partner for her contacts and hard work in networking to gain corporate sponsorship.

First post!!

WELCOME!

What can I say? I've spent a good 2+ hours trying to get a decent background picture of Mount Elgon on this blog. What a pain!

Anyway, let's start by telling you what this blog is going to be all about.

On the 2nd June, a team of people are fund raising for the charity Fields of Life, to build a school in Uganda. We as a team, will be climbing Mount Elgon, one of the highest mountains in Africa - this will be no picnic and it certainly won't be a holiday!

This blog will follow my partner and I prior, during and after the trip. I have no doubt, there will be pain, dehydration, acute mountain sickness (altitude), headaches, tiredness, blisters, pulled muscles and arguments! AND hopefully, elation that we have made it to the summit and success for building a school for the children of Uganda.

We are trying to raise as much money as possible and we are looking for corporate sponsorship, so we can also take your company logos to the top!

You can donate here - www.justgiving.co.uk/royandbeverley

If you're a company that is interested in providing your logos as part of a corporate sponsorship, then please email me at mountelgon@hotmail.co.uk.

THANK YOU!
